Irma Coté was born and educated in Bavaria,
Germany, where she was professionally trained in photography.
After settling in Québec she added stitching,
sculpture, collage, stained glass and mono-print to her artistic
repertoire, before turning to quilting. This medium turned out
to be of enduring interest, along with stained glass, providing
an exciting canvas for her ideas and images.

have shown during the last few decades an astonishing development
and acceptance by art lovers and home decorators.
This medium offers everything colours,
form and tactility. The shapes and hues of the fabrics create
marvelous juxtapositions, interesting tensions and relationships
add to this an underlying idea, a mental and emotional concept

All pieces are based on original concepts and designs and individually
hand quilted by the artist.
Irma¹s themes and images usually operate
on several levels. The obvious one, visible to the casual viewer
and the hidden one touching on ecological, spiritual, metaphysical
themes. Medieval allegories and whimsical abstractions are her
language.
Today¹s larger walls in lofts, homes and
condos lend themselves beautifully to this decorating idea.
Quilts are durable and easy to care for.

A quilt takes from 4 to 6 months to create and each piece is
unique.
